No More Signings at Bayern this Summer

Bayern Munich will not sign any more players before the start of the 2014/15 Bundesliga season, according to the club’s manager Pep Guardiola.

The German champions’ squad have recorded series of injury setbacks, with defender Rafinha and winger Franck Ribery both doubtful for Wednesday’s German Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund while Thiago Alcantara remains an absentee.

“We don’t need any new players,” the ex-Barcelona coach said. “Thiago will be back and Rafa will be back and Franck will be back so I am happy about this squad.”

Alcantara underwent a knee ligament operation in May and German press have forecast October return date for the midfielder, who joined the Bavarians last summer from Barca.

But Guardiola adds: “Thiago will come back quicker than people think, that I’m sure of.”

Bayern have signed Polish striker Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund and defender Juan Bernat Bernat from Valencia in the close season.

They’ve sold Croatian Mario Mandzukic to Atletico Madrid and Toni Kroos to Real Madrid in the current transfer window.

Meanwhile, they’ve been strongly linked with Dortmund’s playmaker Marco Reus, but Guardiola says he has never discussed buying the German midfielder.

“I haven’t talked about Marco Reus with (Bayern chief) Karl Heinz Rummenigge,” the 43-year-old tactician said. “We already have eight midfielder. Eight! That’s enough.”
