Governor Chief Theodore Orji of Abia State has commended the Nigeria Police in its effort in helping the state combat kidnappings.
The governor stated this when he paid the acting Inspector General of Police, IGP, Suleiman Abba, a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters Abuja on Friday.
Orji, while congratulating the Police Boss on his appointment, urged him to keep the flag of the numerous achievements of the Police flying. He further stated that Abia state is a friend of the Police and they have both enjoyed mutual collaborations.
IGP Suleiman Abba, who appreciated the governor’s visit, assured him that his tenure will witness the attainment of greater heights by the Force in all ramifications, with special interest in changing the attitude of men and officers of the Force.
Later, while speaking with reporters on how his administration has been tackling the issue of kidnapping in the state, Orji said, “The Nigerian Police worked very hard in helping us combat kidnapping in Abia State. I am happy to announce that we are on top of the situation, and that it has reduced drastically”.
Reacting to questions as to whether it was legal to destroy the houses of suspected kidnappers who have not been found guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction, Orji said: “We act in accordance with the laws passed by the House of Assembly. When a kidnaper’s house is demolished, it is demolished in accordance with the law. When a kidnapper is caught at times taking him to the court takes a long time, most times people don’t come to testify but you can catch a kidnapper in the act, by so doing you will find out their houses and get them demolished”.
Speaking on the prevalent issue of baby factory in Abia, Orji said it has been a major challenge but the Police is helping the state put an end to the menace.
