Roma Sign Greece Defender Kostas Manolas

AS Roma have announced the signing of Kostas Manolas from Olympiacos for a €13m (£10m) transfer fee.

The Greece international has signed a five-year contract with the Serie A outfit and will replace Mehdi Benatia following the Moroccan defender’s move to Bayern Munich.

“Roma announces it has signed on a permanent transfer from Olympiacos FC Konstantinos Manolas’ sporting rights for 13million euros,” the Italian club statement read.

Arsenal earlier disclosed their interest in the centre-back following Thomas Vermaelen’s departure to Barcelona.

The 23-year-old centre-back played every minute of Greece’s four games at this summer’s World Cup following his exceptional 2013/14 season with Olympiacos, when he made 25 league appearances and scored three goals.
