Ahead of tomorrow’s governorship election in Osun State, two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Obokun LGA area of the state, were on Friday (around 3am) arrested for unauthorized transportation of sensitive election materials to an unknown destination.

One of the suspects, who is the Electoral Officer for the LGA, confessed to the crime but kept mum on his sponsors even as he pleaded for mercy.

The suspect, who was leading the convoy, was arrested in a vehicle allegedly belonging to a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Obokun and would have been lynched by vigilant people of Otan-Ile community, but for the quick intervention of police officers.

A check on the mobile phone found on him at the time of arrest, showed that he had constant voice and SMS communications with the PDP chief.

The INEC vehicle used in transporting the election materials, a pick-up van with registration number belonging to the presidency, FG816V01, as well as the suspects involved, are presently cooling their heels at the State CID of the Police Command in Osogbo.
