34-Year-Old Man Rapes Cameroonian Lady In Lagos

A Nigerian man, Fabian Anyanwu, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly raping a 22-year-old Cameroonian lady.


NAN reports that the 34-year-old accused, who resides at 721 Road, D Close, Block 2, Festac Town, Lagos, is standing a two-count charge of assault and rape before senior magistrate, Patrick Adekomaiya.

Corporal John Iberedem, the police prosecutor told the court that the accused committed the offences on August 15 at the said address. He said the defendant after assaulting the young lady, forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

According to him, the plaintiff said the accused offered her a free ride under the guise of going to her direction. He said when it was time for her to alight from the car; the accused refused to stop and drove her to his house, where he assaulted and raped her.

Iberedem told the court that it was the neighbours of the accused that called the police after hearing the complainant screaming. He informed the court that the offences were contrary to section 171 and 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000, with one surety in like sum. He adjourned the case to September 18 for mention.

Meanwhile, Section 258 recommends life imprisonment for rape, while Section 171 stipulates three-year jail term for assault.

It would be recalled that on September 13, 2014, a 28-year-old man, Morufu Tajudeen, was on remanded in prison custody by an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping two teenagers.
