Bayern Munich will be without Franck Ribery in tonight’s Champions League Group E opening game against Manchester City.
The France midfielder, 31, returned from the injury which ruled him out of the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Stuttgart, but Bayern coach Pep Guardiola says he will not be available.
Fellow winger Arjen Robben is also an injury doubt with a knee problem.
The Premier League champions are without midfielder Fernando and striker Stevan Jovetic, while right-back Pablo Zabaleta is suspended.
Zabaleta, who picked up a red card in the last 16 loss to Barcelona last season, could be replaced by Gael Clichy on the right.
Assistant boss Ruben Cousillas, who will occupy the dugout in absence of manager Manuel Pellegrini- also suspended- confirmed that Jovetic failed to overcome the hamstring injury that kept him out of the draw at Arsenal last weekend.
Brazilian Fernando is suffering from a groin problem.
Defender Holger Badstubber is Bayern’s recent addition to a relatively bogus list of injured players. Moroccan midfielder Mehdi Benatia could start in place of the Germany World Cup winner.
Guardiola said: “Benatia has trained well these past few days and making progress every day.”
Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thiago Alcantara, Rafinha and Jarvi Martinez are ruled out of the fixture.
