Ebola: Reps To Review Sept 22 Schools Resumption Date

House-of-RepsThe House of Representatives has directed its Committee on Education to review the federal government’s directive to schools to resume on September 22 as against October 13 to prevent the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country.

Deputy House spokesman, Victor Ogene, in a statement said the directive was necessitated by “growing concern” amongst the public, especially parents and guardians of the pupils and students.

Ogene noted that private school owners vehemently opposed the one-month shift in resumption, compelling the Federal Ministry of Education to settle for a new date of September 22, 2014, after a meeting with stakeholders in the sector.

According to the lawmaker, the House leadership resolved to mandate its Committee on Education to take another look at the issue “in the overall interest of the pupils and students, parents and guardians and the general wellbeing of the entire country”.
