The House of Representatives has directed its Committee on Education to review the federal government’s directive to schools to resume on September 22 as against October 13 to prevent the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country.
Deputy House spokesman, Victor Ogene, in a statement said the directive was necessitated by “growing concern” amongst the public, especially parents and guardians of the pupils and students.
Ogene noted that private school owners vehemently opposed the one-month shift in resumption, compelling the Federal Ministry of Education to settle for a new date of September 22, 2014, after a meeting with stakeholders in the sector.
According to the lawmaker, the House leadership resolved to mandate its Committee on Education to take another look at the issue “in the overall interest of the pupils and students, parents and guardians and the general wellbeing of the entire country”.
Pls oo dey shld reconsider the date ooo for the sake of our children
Yes o abeg are childrens lives are key to d future of this nation. We cannot avoid to toy with their lives bcos of some unscrupulous, greedy school owners. If Ebola exists in one school will they quarantine all d students in dat school and their family members too?
Either 22nd of Sept or 13th of Oct is the resumption date of schools, what will govt put in place to ensure that the deadly ebola didn’t spread through pupils/students?
capital NO to d resumption date ooooo, if na because of d greediness of private school owners dey make dem dey in hays, if d thing spread pass dis one una go run ooooh
Live first. D federal govt nd health practitioners has d final say here. Dis Ebola virus is deadly nd should be tackled wit caution. No big deal wit our children stayin @home for few days.their safety wil be assured wen dis virus is eliminated.
This matter is a sensitive one,the private school owner re fighting 4there own interest, but federal government should think of the health of this nation,if this EBOLA should breakout in our school it would be an easy task o,pls government
