Chelsea FC striker is set for further assessment on a lingering hamstring problem and is not available for selection ahead of Spain’s Uefa Euro 2016 qualifier against Macedonia.
The 25-year-old, who featured in the ‘Blues’s’ 6-3 league win at Everton last week, limped out of the dethroned world champions’ 1-0 friendly defeat by France on Thursday after feeling pains in his hamstring muscle.
A brief statement from the Spanish Football Federation said: “Diego Costa is not available for selection because of an injury to the hamstring muscle in his left thigh. All imaging tests will be sent to Chelsea.”
Costa, despite being a major doubt prior to the trip to Merseyside, scored a brace as Jose Mourinho’s men claimed a nine-goal thriller to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
He has been hampered by similar problems for the last four months and had to be replaced just nine minutes into his former club Atletico Madrid’s Uefa Champions League final loss to Real Madrid in May.
The injury will be of particular concern to Chelsea boss Mourinho, who has been impressed by the striker’s start to life as a Chelsea player, the club for whom he has scored four time after three rounds of league matches.
