Lagos Task Force Nab Woman With Fake Pregnancy

A 29-year-old woman has been arrested by the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences for faking pregnancy which she used in deceiving people and soliciting for alms.


The News Agency of Nigeria reports that she was nabbed on Thursday, September 11, with her fake ‘heavy pregnancy’ under the Ikeja Bridge where she stays to beg for alms.

She was arrested following a tip-off from members of the public who were suspicious of her activities.

She was paraded with a pillow which she usually hides under her dress to fake pregnancy she uses in deceiving unsuspecting members of the public to get money.

According to the Chairman of the Task Force, Mr Bayo Sulaiman, the woman confessed to her dishonest business and even showed the officials how she used to fake the pregnancy to appeal to people’s sympathy and defraud them.

He explained that she would be arraigned in court to face the consequence of her fraudulent way of life, adding that the state government would not in any way condone the practice of street begging which had serious security and environmental consequences.

The task force chairman said: “The case of this woman is one of the many cases of many dishonest people across the metropolis, who operate under different guises to solicit alms and defraud members of the public.”

He therefore warned members of the public to be wary of people who approach them for assistance, saying that some of them might be fraudsters.
