Obafemi Martins grabbed Seattle Sounders’ second goal in a 3-2 home win over Real Salt Lake on Friday night.
The Nigerian’s 43rd minute strike gave the CenturyLink Field outfit a 2-1 advantage going into the half-time break, after his strike partner Lemar Neagle leveled Javier Morales’ 30th minute opener.
It was the ex-Inter Milan man’s fifth goal in his last five games and his 13th in 23 Major League Soccer matches. Martins has also made three assists within that time frame.
Joao Plata restored parity for the visitors after the break. Nat Borcher was sent off on 69th minute and despite been reduced to ten men, Salt Lake fought on.
It took a dying minute strike from Andy Rose to douse the visitors’ hopes.
The win helped Sounders surge clear at the top of the MLS Western Conference by 4 points with 54 tally from 27 games.
