Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday, presented a budget estimate of N156.551bn for the 2015 fiscal year to the Edo State House of Assembly.

Tagged “Budget of Developmental Consolidation”, the governor explained that it was designed to achieve the consolidation of his administration’s development agenda, with continuous focus on the core priority sectors of the government, which include infrastructure, education and health, in terms of resource allocation and injection of new investments.

A breakdown of the fiscal budget shows that the state government plans to spend N87.56bn or 55.77% of the total budget on Capital Expenditure, while N68.99bn, which represents 44.23% of the total budget, was proposed as Recurrent Expenditure.

A sector by sector breakdown of the proposal indicates that the sum of N18.5bn was proposed for the environment sector; education, N18.1bn; road infrastructure, N16.95bn; health N9.295bn; judiciary, N2.955bn; agriculture, N1.005bn, water resources and water supply, N0.981bn and N0.500bn for rural electrification in the capital budget for the energy sub-sector.

Oshiomhole said, “With the giant strides we recorded since we came on board, I make bold to say that 2015 holds a bright future for our people. We will continue to stand on our well-articulated development strategy and our key priorities, which will enable us to focus and deploy resources in a more prudent, efficient and effective manner”.
