Italy midfielder Marco Verratti has extended his contract at Paris St-Germain (PSG) by one year until July 2019, PSG has confirmed.
The 21-year-old has been impressive for the French Ligue 1 champions since joining from Serie B side Pescara in the summer of 2012. He won the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award last season and was included in the Team of the Year after making 88 appearances.
Verratti said: “When I think about my career, I only see myself at Paris Saint-Germain. I want to continue winning trophies with this club and continue to improve as a footballer alongside truly world-class players. Paris is magical!”
It is the second summer in succession Verratti has signed an improved contract with PSG and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stressed the youngster’s importance to them.
“All of Europe wants Marco Verratti, and each year, he shows his desire to be a long term part of the Paris Saint-Germain project,” Al-Khelaifi said.
“Marco is one of the most talented players of his generation. His presence in the squad shows the club’s desire to prepare for the future and build one of the biggest clubs in Europe.”
