West Brom’s Ideye Opens Goal-Scoring Account

West Brom’s record signing Brown Ideye scored his first goal in a 3-2 Capital One Cup win over Hull City, but injured his foot in the process.

The £10m summer signing opened scoring in the 15th minute, when he poked home a rebound from close range after Sebastian Blanco’s header was kept out by goalkeeper Steve Harper. The Nigerian striker unfortunately picked up an ankle injury in the process and was later replaced by Giorgios Samaras.

Tom Ince restored parity just before the break, having being left unmarked at the back post to convert Robbie Brady’s low left-wing cross.

Brady placed the ‘Tigers’ in the ascendancy on 50 minutes, ignoring offside calls to fire past Boaz Mywill in goal for the Albions, following Hatem Ben Arfa’s through ball.

Both sides spurned a host of chances but West Brom’s late rally eventually paid off with Gareth McAuley volleying home the equaliser in the 88th minute before substitute Saido Berahino sent The Hawthorns faithful into wide celebration 60 seconds later.

West Brom face a trip to Bournemouth in the fourth round of the League Cup.
