A 25-year-old trader, Mrs Modinat Alade, on Thursday sought the dissolution of her eight-year old union with her husband, Gbola Alade over non-payment of dowry.
Alade, who approached an Oyo State Customary Court Grade C, sitting in Iseyin, told the court that the union was yet to produce any child.
The trader, who is seeking the dissolution on ground of non-payment of dowry and lack of care and love, said the situation was “worrisome and unbearable.
“When we are about to get married, he told my people that he will pay the dowry later and also perform the normal family rites.
“Until today he has not deemed it fit to make good his promises, and I am sure, that was why we have not been able to have any child since then.
“I have done all I could to persuade him, but he did not listen. I have even talked to his family members about it and nothing came out of it.
“If Gbola really loves me, I am sure he would have done the needful, it’s so obvious that he does not love me, so please let my lord separate us for the sake of God, “she pleaded.
The President of the court, Chief Raimi Oyegbenle, in his ruling, said that the husband, Gbola had written to inform the court about his unavoidable absence.
Oyegbenle adjourned the case till Sept. 30 for Gbola’s defense and further hearing on the matter. [NAN]
