The Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr Mike Okiro, on Wednesday congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan, on the occasion of the country’s 54th anniversary.

Okiro, in a congratulatory message, noted that the president’s resilience to move the country forward had been misconstrued by many.

He, however, urged him not to give up as posterity would applaud the giant steps he had taken to revamp the country’s socio-economic life to a point of “irreversible transformation”.

“Already, the fruits have started manifesting in earnest with our emergence as the foremost economy in the African continent”, he said.

Okiro said that many events had tasked the resolve of the nation’s to remain as an indivisible entity to the limit but that the citizens’ uncommon collective determination had weather the storm.

According to him, the uncommon determination has seen the people emerge more resolute to keep the ship of the state on course.

Okiro, who said the task of policing heterogeneous country like Nigeria was daunting, called on Nigerians to support government in its efforts to stem the scourge of insecurity and other vices.

“As we mark this solemn anniversary celebration, we should remain steadfast and more committed to the task of building an egalitarian society”, he said.

He said this was, needed, to “shame and confound our detractors”. (NAN)
