Aluko, Akpan Among 10 Early Arrivals in Eagles Camp

Reading FC’s Hope Akpan and Hull City’s Sone Aluko are among ten players to have made it to Nigeria camp in Abuja on Monday.

Not less than ten players arrived in Abuja as at Monday afternoon as preparations for Saturday’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier commences on Tuesday morning inside the main bowl of the Abuja National Stadium.

Other invitees are expected on Tuesday before dinner. Speaking to reporters at the team’s Bolton White Apartment in Abuja, coach Stephen Keshi said he was impressed by the “response” of the players.

“The response so far has been wonderful and I am in touch with those who are yet to arrive and they will surely be here in time for proper preparation against Sudan,” Keshi said.

Among the early arrivals are Babatunde Michael, Aluko, Akpan, Nosa Igiebor, Aaron Samuel, Gbolahan Salami, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Ighodalo Osaguona, Chigozie Agbim and replacement forward Emem Eduok.

Nigeria have managed just a point after two round of matches and trail group leaders Congo (6 points) and South Africa (4 points). Sudan have lost two out of two qualifying matches.

Nigeria will host Sudan in the return leg at the Abuja National Stadium on October 15.
