The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army yesterday announced the extension of restriction of vehicular movement in Maiduguri metropolis till tomorrow. The embargo was initially slated to end today.
In a terse statement issued via sms by Colonel Sani Usman, a deputy director, Army Public Relations, the military authorities said: “Please be informed that the embargo on all vehicular movement in 7 Division area of responsibility has been extended till 7.00am on Tuesday, 7th October, 2014”.
It would be recalled that the Division had banned movement of cars and tricycles since 5pm on Friday as part of efforts to avert planned attacks by Boko Haram insurgents during the Sallah celebrations.
However, the Eid-el-Fitri celebrations went peacefully in Maiduguri and its environs though residents had to trek long distances to mosques and other places of prayer while entry into the state capital was completely banned.
