Gareth Bale has been left out of Real Madrid squad for their Champions League visit to Liverpool on Wednesday.
The Welshman’s appearance at Anfield was placed in doubt after the European champions announced he was suffering from a gluteus injury on Tuesday.
The £85m world record signing from Tottenham Hotspur has now been confirmed and absentee from Carlo Ancelotti’s 20-man squad for the trip to Merseyside.
The 25-year-old, who played the whole 90 minutes in both Wales’ Euro 2016 qualifiers against Bosnia-Hercegovina and Cyprus, was an unused substitute in Saturday’s Spanish La Liga win over Levante on his return from international duty.
Reports in Spain suggest he could also miss next weekend’s ‘El Clasico’ at home to La Liga leaders Barcelona, as well as the possibility of further matches.
