An Ilorin Magistrate’s court has sentenced one Popoola Ademola, 22, to four months imprisonment for theft.
Magistrate M. K. Aluko who gave the judgment, convicted Ademola, who was arraigned before the court for theft contrary to section 287 of penal code law.
The convict was charged for snatching H.T.C handset valued at N54, 000 belonging to one Ameenat Issah of No. 94, Edun Street, Ilorin, Kwara state.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the victim (Ameenat Issah) had reported at SARS office, Ilorin alleging that the convict snatched her handset while on her way from a friend’s place.
The FIR explained that the complainant raised alarm for assistance and the convict was pursued and arrested by the good Samaritans around the area. The FIR said Ademola confessed to the crime.
“Investigation conducted at SARS office revealed that the suspect is of questionable character without reasonable means of livelihood and that he committed the alleged offence”, the FIR said.
The accused person pleaded guilty when he was arraigned before the court.
