DSS Seizes Stockpile Of Arms In Akwa Ibom

DSS-maskedThe Department of State Service, Akwa Ibom State Command, have seized arms and light weapons, which have been stockpiled to “disrupt the 2015 elections in the state”.

It was learnt that operatives of the DSS on undercover assignment have been mopping-up these arms for some time, while the culprits have been arrested for interrogation and prosecution.

State Director of DSS, Mr. Toma Minti, said in Uyo, the state capital on Saturday that the morale of his men has been on the upward swing with determination to take on some criminal elements in society.

Minti, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Fubara Duke, said the Service in the last few months have forestalled many criminal activities, adding that the successes achieved would not have been possible without the close collaboration of other security agencies.

According to Minti, the relative peace experienced in the state is the product of intense fights by the DSS operatives in the state.

“As we arrest them, we retrieve the arms they have acquired ahead of 2015 elections in the state.

“Policing the state effectively requires collaborative efforts by the security operatives and the civil society.

“We urge the public to always volunteer information about crimes in their neighbourhood to the DSS. We can assure our informants that their identity will be highly protected”, he said.

He added that the security threat posed by the Boko Haram insurgents requires vigilance and collective measures to stem it.

While noting that the Federal Government has shown commitment to tackling the security challenges, Minti, however, urged patriotic Nigerians to also rise against the terrorists for total peace in the country.

The DSS boss also assured the people of Akwa Ibom State of hitch-free general elections in 2015, warning that trouble makers would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
