Glo Premier League: Pillars Maintain Lead, Enyimba Crank Up Pressure

Kano Pillars got the better of El Kanemi Warriors to maintain their push for a third successive Glo Premier League title but will yet have to be looking over their shoulders with Enyimba in the chase.

The champions sealed a 3-1 win at El-Kanemi to increase their point haul to 62 after 36 games, two points ahead of Enyimba, who also won 2-1 at Nembe City.

In Kano- adopted home of El-Kanemi- Ubong Ekpai grabbed the opener for the visitors in the 25th minute, but Nigeria U-20 star Ifeanyi Matthew leveled for the hosts.

Adamu Hassan restored ‘Sai Masugida’s’ lead after 30 minutes, with his 13th goal of the season. Adamu Murtala grabbed Pillars’ third with nine minutes left to full-time.

Enyimba came back from a goal down to seal a 2-1 win courtesy of Mfon Udoh’s brace. The ‘Peoples Elephants’’ forward has now tied Jude Aneke in the record for the highest goal tally in a single Nigeria League season with his 20th strike of the season.

Warri Wolves dropped to third in the table following a 1-1 draw at Sharks FC. Wolves now have 59 points. Wolves were minutes away from claiming three points before Fortune Omaniwari equalized for Sharks.

Ebenegbu ‘mosquito’ Ikechukwu placed the visitors in the ascendancy on 14 minutes, when he poked home a rebound from Ifenayi Ede’s effort which was blocked by goalkeeper James Aiyeyemi.

Nasarawa United claimed a 2-1 win at home to Sunshine Stars. Relegation battlers Bayelsa United defeated Dolphins 3-1, while Gombe United also kept hopes of staying afloat with a 1-0 win over Rangers.

Abia Warriors edged Crown FC 1-0, Lobi sealed a narrow home win against Akwa United in Markurdi.
