Monaco will be without Dimitar Berbatov for the next three weeks following the striker’s injury during last night’s Uefa Champions League stalemate at home to Benfica.
The Bulgarian, 33, left the pitch early in the first-half and the principality club medical staff has now confirmed that he sustained a thigh injury.
“Dimitar Berbatov has a muscle injury to his left thigh,” the club said in a statement. “He is expected to be out for three weeks.”
He will miss the return leg against Benfica on November 4, and league clashes against Bastia and Reims on October 25 and 31, respectively.
Berbatov joined the French Ligue 1 outfit from Fulham in January and scored six goals in 12 appearances for the club as they went on to finish runners-up behind Paris St-Germain. He has scored twice in all competitions so far this season.
Coach Leonardo Jardim could call on the likes of Anthony Martial and Valere Germain to fill in for the injured Berbatov.
