A Georgia man is accused of assaulting a woman he met online after she didn’t turn out to be what he expected.
Cornelius Jefferson, 33, moved to Kentucky from Georgia after meeting a woman on the Internet and beginning a romantic relationship, according to a statement on the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
After meeting his girlfriend in person, Jefferson got into an argument with her because he “didn’t think she was like she was on the Internet,” and allegedly wound up choking her, throwing food on her and fleeing on foot with two suitcases in hand. Deputies found him wandering a road a few miles outside of London, Kentucky at around 4:20 a.m. on October 21.
Laurel County Deputy Gilbert Acciadio Jr., told the Lexington Herald-Leader he had no information on exactly how Jefferson felt the woman was different from how she came across online. He also could not say how long Jefferson had been with his girlfriend in Kentucky before the assault occurred.
Jefferson was charged with fourth-degree assault.
