A man charged for stabbing a Chicago high school freshmen to death has been sentenced to 160 years in prison.
The man’s name is John Wilson Jr. and he is 41-years-old. He stabbed 14-year-old Kelli O’Laughlin to death as soon as she discovered he was trying to burglarize her home, on her way home from school.
John Wilson Jr. used an eight inch carving knife from a butcher’s block and repeatedly stabbed Kelli O’Laughlin in the back, chest, and neck.
One of the wounds was so severe it pierced her aorta.
After John stabbed Kelli to death, he dragged her body from the family room into the kitchen, and he then continued to steal everything inside the 14-year-old girl’s home. John Wilson stole a bowl of coins, Kelli’s cell phone and an IPod Touch.
Kelli was found dead by her mother Brenda O’Laughlin at around 5:30 pm when she came home from work.
Kelli was pronounced dead later that night in the ER. The story gets worse, the next morning John decided to send Brenda threatening text messages from her dead daughter’s cell phone, according to The Daily Mail.
One of the text messages read, “She wanted to tell you something before I killed her.”
These threatening messages led police to the location of Wilson by tracking Kelli’s stolen cell phone signal. Kelli’s mother testified in court at the sentencing hearing and told the judge she wishes she was the one who walked into the house that day “to see that evil killer.”
“I cannot even begin to imagine or endure her last moments of life with that evil man,” Brenda said in court. “Kelli was a true innocent victim. What physical threat could she have been?”
John Wilson told the judge he shouldn’t be sentenced for the crime and “the voices in me told me not to talk to you.”
Judge John Hynes called Kelli’s murder “a crime that shocked the conscience of the community.”
John Wilson was sentenced to 30 years for armed robbery, 100 years for first-degree murder, and 30 years for home invasion, reports WGNTV.
Kelli’s father was extremely displeased with the outcome of the trial and doesn’t think the sentence is long enough.
Kelli’s mother on the other hand is satisfied with the outcome of the trial.
“Justice will never be done because Kelli’s never coming home,” Brenda said. “But, as far as the sentencing, I am very pleased with it because he will never be out on the streets again to harm another child.”
