NJC Commences Probe Of Attacks On Judges In Ekiti

Investigation into all petitions submitted to National Judicial Council (NJC) as regards attacks on judges and vandalism of properties at the Ekiti State High Court Complex, Ado-Ekiti has begun, the council announced.

NJC made this known following an emergency meeting held to discuss the violence that rocked the state on September 22 and 25, 2014.

Acting Director of Information of the NJC, Mr. Soji Oye, in a statement condemned in strong terms “the recent unfortunate and worrisome incidents in Ekiti State judiciary, particularly in the High Court complex, Ado-Ekiti.”

The council has therefore called on the Inspector General of Police (IG), MD Abubakar to take over the investigation of the reported attacks on Justices John Adeyeye and Isaac Olusegun Ogunyemi and some workers of the Ekiti State High Court. The police boss has also been directed to investigate the vandalism of property at the court and asked that the culprits be brought to justice.

The NJC also urged the IG to provide security for judicial officers across the country.
