The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) says it has no plans to embark on a nationwide strike over the poor state of roads across the country.
“For now there is no intention for the national union to join the protest embarked upon by the NUPENG Eastern Zone Branch,” said Igwe Atuche, President of NUPENG, in a telephone chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He however did not rule out a nationwide strike, as he said, “We are still consulting.”
Members of the union in the Eastern Zone had last Friday embarked on strike over the poor condition of some link roads in the area.
The Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Branch of NUPENG had also on Thursday threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if the government fails to repair the roads, with the Chairman of the association, Mr Salimon Olatidi issuing a 90-day ultimatum to the Federal Government.
