Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Attack Plateau Villages, Kill 12

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have killed about 12 persons in four villages in the Bachit District of Riyom Local Government area of Plateau State as renewed violence hit the state.

Member representing Riyom Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Daniel Dem confirmed the attack, saying that nine people were killed in a simultaneous attack carried out by the Fulani herdsmen.

According to Dem, the attackers also burnt several houses, including that of late Senator Gyang Dantong.

A villager who craved anonymity also confirmed the attack. He also said that the four villages were attacked simultaneously at about 1am, with hundreds of people displaced.

Dem said the prompt intervention of operatives of the Special Task Force curtailed the attacks, but called for adequate security measures in the affected communities to enable the villagers continue with normal activities.

He also called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assist the victims with relief materials to assuage any effects the attack might have had.
