Spanish La Liga side Villarreal has reportedly began contract renewal talks with Ikechukwu Uche.
The Nigerian striker, who joined the ‘Yellow Submarine’ from Real Zaragoza in August 2011, will run out of contract in June next year and the club are willing to retain his services beyond then, according to AS.
It is understood contact with the player’s agent was made about two weeks ago, though Uche could well result to listening to offers from outside.
Meanwhile, Villarreal are confident that their offer is enough to entice the 30-year-old to stay at El Madrigal.
Uche has been the club’s top scorer in successive campaigns since 2012/13 season when they made their return back to the Primera Division.
His 14 goals in the previous campaign helped Marcelino García Toral’s side to a sixth-place finish, thereby qualifying for the 2014/15 Europa League.
