Ekiti State is one of the leading cultivation centres for cannabis in Nigeria’s Southwest, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has revealed. Osun and Ondo States follow Ekiti closely in the cultivation of weed.
Commander of NDLEA in Ekiti, Mr Suleiman Jadi made this known while speaking with Thisday in Ado Ekiti on Friday.
According to him, over 400 acres of cannabis plantation have been discovered and destroyed at Ise Forest Reserve alone.
He therefore asked for government’s help on logistics to ease the operation of the agency in the state.
Jadi noted that processed drug totalling 67,200kg was destroyed in a community in Ado Local Government, covering about 14 acres of land within the last three months.
In Ise Forest Reserved Area alone, an estimated 27 tons was destroyed, said Jadi, who described the trend as worrisome and dangerous to the youths, whom he described as the major consumers.
