Gov. Aliyu Makes U-Turn, Endorses Ex-Chief Of Staff As Successor

babangida-aliyu-360x2259989789Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State yesterday endorsed his former Chief of Staff, Umar Nasko, as the gubernatorial aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as his successor.

Speaking to newsmen in Minna, the state capital, the governor said the meeting for the endorsement had stakeholders from Zone C, comprising Kontagora and Borgu emirates, in attendance.

“It was a consensus for Umar Nasko. Nasko is my preferred choice among those seeking the ticket. I consulted with many stakeholders before today’s (yesterday) meeting in line with democratic ethics”, he said.

The governor said he was so particular about who succeeds him, hence the endorsement of someone from his cabinet.

He charged the party to work hard to ensure that it retains all elective positions in next year’s general elections.

Gov. Aliyu’s endorsement of Nasko is a radical departure from his insistence in the past that he does not have a preferred candidate as his successor although he lauded the fact that most of the aspirants angling for his seat on the platform of PDP are members of his cabinet.
