South Africa will be without May Mahlangu for their African Nations Cup (Afcon) qualifiers against Sudan and Nigeria, according to coach Shakes Mashaba.
The IFK Goteborg of Sweden attacking midfielder has not joined up with the rest of the Bafana Bafana team in Durban as at Monday.
“Unfortunately we received a letter that says he (Mahlangu) played a lot of games and needed a rest,” Mashaba told reporters after training on the outer pitch of the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday morning.
“That is what is happening and we cannot do anything about it.”
The Group A leaders are also without another midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi, who has failed to recover from a toe injury.
South Africa hosts Sudan in Durban on Saturday before travelling to Uyo to play Nigeria four days later.
They top their pool with eight points and would clinch their ticket on Saturday, if they win Sudan and Congo are defeated by Nigeria in Point Noir.
