2015 Polls Requires Cooperation Of All Stakeholders – IG

IGP-Suleiman-AbbaThe Police said the successful conduct of the 2015 elections required the cooperation of politicians, electorate and other stakeholders, and not INEC and the force alone.

The Force Spokesman, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, said in a statement on Tuesday that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, made the remark when he received an NGO, Savannah Centre for Diplomacy and Development.

Abba re-affirmed the readiness of the force to ensure safety and security before, during and after the elections, adding that the personnel were being trained to ensure that.

Earlier, the chairman of the NGO, retired Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Uwais, expressed confidence in the ability of the police to provide security for the conduct of the elections.

Uwais said the visit was to brainstorm with the police management on how to secure the 2015 elections.

Also, a member of the NGO, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, a one-time Nigeria’s Permanent representative to the UN, commended the police for its accomplishments in the global peace-keeping assignments.

Gambari said it was necessary to introduce the organisation to the leadership of the force to forge a collaboration between government agencies and non-state actors in preparation for a credible election. (NAN)
