Appeals Committee Chief Annuls NFF Polls

Head of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) appeals committee, Okechukwu Ajunwa has annulled the election of Amaju Pinnick as president of the football federation, a day after members of the same committee had upheld results of the same polls.

Electoral appeals committee members, on Wednesday, ruled that results of the polls conducted on September 30 in Warri, be upheld in its entirety after thrashing several appeals against it.

They also warned of “a minority position” by the committee chairman.

And on Thursday, chairman Ajunwa ruled that four of the elections into the NFF Executive Board (ExCo) be nullified.

The two positions have, understandably, been communicated to world football’s governing body Fifa, who are now expected to decide on the foregoing.

The appeals committee boss declared that presidential aspirant Shehu Dikko was unjustifiably disqualified from the polls, contrary to the electoral codes.

Hence, he announced that a bye election- to be held in Abuja- be conducted within seven days for the NFF president, first vice president and ExCo board positions to the South East, North West.

Those eligible for the fresh polls are persons who were cleared and contested in the August 26 elections and September 30 elections. However, any persons from Kano and Abia are disqualified from the forthcoming elections.

  1. Why do we want to use our own hands to set on fire a house we have laboured so hard to build only recently? There is something intrinsically wrong with our sports in general. It must be located and dealt with.
