A 33-year-old father of three, Onosaze A Inegbedion, was said to be among the victims.

A source from New Benin area narrated:

“I think what we are witnessing now is a supremacy battle between these elements, and you know because most of this people belong to rival cult groups; they tend to always want to lord over each other.”

The State Police Command spokesman, DSP Joseph Edoghiawerhie, confirmed the incident without mentioning however whether it was a cult-related issue.
