Emir of Mubi, Adamawa State, Dr. Abubakar Isa Ahmadu, Friday, returned to his palace amid cheers from residents, after two months’ exile caused by Boko Haram attacks.

The insurgents had invaded the commercial town, burning down the Mubi International Market along with several churches before renaming it as Madinatul Islam or “City of Islam”. They also chased the emir out and hoisted their flag at the palace.

However, army troops, assisted by local hunters, recaptured the town last week, in an operation that also led to the recapture of Gombi, Hong and Maiha.

The emir was received by palace officials and other subjects, most of whom had just returned or were trapped during the attacks.

He was away in Saudi Arabia as the state Amirul Hajj when Boko Haram insurgents attacked the town on October 12, 2014 and took over his palace.

“We appreciate the gallant efforts of the Nigerian Military, the hunters and the vigilante that saw the liberation of our towns,” the monarch said, while observing the Friday prayer with his subjects. “We are optimistic that the remaining towns will soon be liberated.”

Although several businesses have not resumed operations, the military have continued with their mop-up operation, in preparation for the return of displaced residents. The police and all paramilitary agencies have also returned to their bases, with heavy security presence to fish out and defuse any threat.

The residents have therefore called on authorities to rid the town of corpses littering the streets, as soon as possible. They appealed to the mobile network operators to restore their services to the towns.
