The Nigeria Police has advised Nigerians to be very vigilant during this festive period, especially when receiving gifts from unknown persons.
In a statement by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, issued by the force spokesman, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu on Wednesday, the warning came in order to ensure that people do not receive bomb-laden gifts.
The Police boss also cautioned against the use of fireworks and other explosives during the yuletide in order not to further heighten fear of insecurity, which already exists in the country.
Abba has directed Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in all the states to take necessary measures to provide adequate security throughout the period.
According to him, commissioners of police must ensure security at all “key and vulnerable points” during the season.
The Inspector General advised citizens to shun all forms of violence and go about their legitimate duties without fear of intimidation during and after the season.
