Rivers Elders Warns PDP Against Fielding Wike In 2015

PDP

The people of Rivers State under the aegis of Rivers State Elders and Leaders, have warned President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), against fielding forming Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike as the party’s candidate at the 2015 governorship elections.

The group, rising from a meeting with elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark at his Asokoro residence, Abuja, therefore called on President Jonathan, PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, the entire leadership of the party, not to encourage ‘the inordinate political ambition of an individual, who wants to impose himself on the people, even against the wishes of the people.’

Chief Clark, apparently in tune with their call noted that the situation in Rivers State PDP has become explosive as no one could predict what will happen later. He noted that if the issue of injustice was not addressed, and an individual who has been masquerading himself as the owner of PDP stopped, peace can never reign in Rivers PDP.

Following the meeting, the elders wrote the president, condemning the rising violence in various parts of Rivers. They advised the president to, as a matter of urgency, act to stop ‘the ambition of an individual to throw the state into anarchy and war.

The group therefore urged the president and leadership of the PDP to order the cancellation of all the congresses and state House of Assembly primaries conducted in the state and also called for the dismantling of all PDP structures in the state, which they alleged had been taken over by Wike-led Grassroot Democratic Initiative (GDI).
