Senatorial Primaries: Aregbesola Didn’t Interfere, Impose Candidates – Osun APC

Rauf-AregbesolaThe Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has dismissed claims expressed by some of its aspirants that Governor Rauf Aregbesola is imposing some serving lawmakers on the people.

The governor was specifically accused of rejecting results of primaries in some areas where his preferred candidates did not win.

A prominent leader of the party, who spoke with journalists on the condition of anonymity, claimed that the publicity secretary of the APC in Ogun State, who is an indigene of Osun, Sola Lawal, defeated the incumbent Senator representing Osun East, Jide Omoworare by 17 to 3 votes, but his victory was said to have been rejected by the governor who allegedly preferred the serving senator.

But the Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC in the state, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, who denied the speculations in Osogbo, the state capital on Saturday, said: “The allegation against the governor is baseless and unwarranted. The governor did not interfere in any of the primaries because he wants the most popular aspirant to emerge.

“Some of the aspirants have been going about claiming they won the primaries, don’t allow them to mislead the public. The governor does not have any preferred choice among them. They are all members of the party and he would not impose anyone on the party”.
