Sokoto PDP Debunks Report Of 4,000 Members’ Defection To APC

PDPThe Peoples Democratic Party, Sokoto State chapter, has denied that 4,000 of its members in Isa Local Government Area of the state defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the weekend.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had reported that 4,000 PDP supporters in Isa had defected to the APC and were received by the state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, who was represented by his Commissioner for Agriculture, Arzika Tureta.

Debunking the news of defection of its members to the APC on Monday, the state chairman of the PDP, Ibrahim Milgoma, boasted that the party remains one to beat. “Since the bad eggs in the PDP left, the party has been waxing stronger in Sokoto. The Party remains the party to beat”, he said.

One of those alleged to have defected to the APC, Abubakar Yusuf Dan Ali, who is also PDP’s chairmanship candidate for Isa local government, alleged that the reception organized to welcome the purported defectors by the APC was stage-managed. “The gathering was stage-managed. Look at all of us that were mentioned to have defected here. I am still in the race for the PDP chairmanship in the local government”, Yusuf told journalists.

A former member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Tsaure insisted that he had no reason to defect, adding that “the defection story is false”.
