Arsenal are expected to confirm Gabriel Paulista signing today as the club has been granted a work permit for the Villarreal defender.
Spanish top-flight outfit Villarreal has already confirmed that an agreement has been reached in principle for the 24-year-old, who is said to worth £15m.
The deal also involves Gunners striker Joel Campbell moving the opposite direction on loan until the end of the season, according to Villarreal.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed on Thursday talks were ongoing over the signing of the centre-back.
Wenger, speaking after the FA Cup win at Brighton on Sunday, said: “Paulista is a central defender, but he can also play on the flanks.
“He is tall and pacy. He has a good chance to adapt to English football.”
Paulista joined Villarreal in 2013 from Brazilian club Vitoria, where he made a total of 141 appearances in all competitions.
Campbell signed for Arsenal from Costa Rican club Deportivo Saprissa SAD, and has enjoyed loan stints at French Ligue 1 club FC Lorient, Spanish side Real Betis and Greek club Olympiakos.
The Costa Rican helped his country reach the quarter-finals of the Fifa World Cup last year.
