Costa Gets Three-Match Ban, Misses Man City Game

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been handed a three-match ban by the Football Association for standing on Liverpool’s Emre Can.

Costa had denied the FA charge over a ‘stamping’ incident in the 12th minute of Tuesday night’s League Cup semi-final win over Liverpool and Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea cannot appeal the verdict made by an independent commission hearing.

He Spaniard, 26, will miss Saturday’s Premier League clash with second-placed Manchester City in London on Saturday as well as subsequent games at Aston Villa and at home to Everton.

Costa, who joined the ‘Blues’ from Atletico Madrid in the summer, has scored 17 times in 19 league games this season.
