The officials, who are members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), were named by the prime suspect, Dumebi Kachikwu, who spent five days in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) net, for his role in the crime.
A source in the EFCC told Vanguard that Kachikwu offered “very useful information” on how the money was received and shared to the “beneficiaries,” before he was released on bail last week. The information led to the arrest a top businessman in Delta State, who was said to have received N100 million of the N750 million given by Elumelu. He is currently being questioned by the anti-graft agency in Abuja on how the money traced to his account got there.
Vanguard further learnt that two PDP NWC members mentioned by the suspect are being closely monitored to ensure they do not flee the country before concrete evidence was gotten against them. The source however told the news oufit that EFCC was not going to leave any stone unturned until those named in the scandal are brought to book.
“We have accepted the PDP challenge and we are going all out to ensure that all those who shared the N750 million bribe will be duly exposed and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent no matter their positions in this country,” he said.
EFCC operatives are working tirelessly to wrap up investigations on the suspects before pressing charges against them, the source supplied.
