Nigeria’s U-20 and U-23 teams will take part in this year’s Super 4 pre-season tournament, according to organisers.
The Super 4, the traditional curtain-raiser for the new Nigeria league season, originaly involves the four teams eligible to represent the country in the forthcoming continental championships.
Top sources have hinted InformationNigeria.com that this year’s competition will hold in Abuja between January 22 and February 2.
Plans have been put in place for the Nigeria U20 team, the Flying Eagles, and the U-23 side to use this tournament to prepare for the 2015 African Youth Championship slated for March in Senegal and an All Africa Games qualifier against Gabon at the end of February respectively.
The round-robin tournament will as usual serve as a build-up competition for the country’s representatives in both the Caf Champions League and Caf Confederation Cup, especially with the new league season not expected to commence before March 7.
Reigning Glo Premier League champions, Kano Pillars, and runners-up, Enyimba International FC, have both qualified for next season’s Champions League, while third-placed Warri Wolves and 2014 Federation Cup losing-finalists Dolphins FC are due for the second-tier Confederation Cup.
