Over one hundred and five (105) people whose property were destroyed during the 2011 post-election crisis in Sokoto State, have appealed to the Federal Government to redeem the pledge made to them in good time. This is just as the FG has announced it has released N3 billion for onward disbursement to victims of the crisis in kaduna,
Speaking during a peaceful demonstration held yesterday in Sokoto, the victims, who carried placards with various inscriptions, lamented that no assistance has come their way since the ugly incident.
The spokesperson of the victims, Chief Chris Ukpai Chukwu, in an interview with journalists, said despite the approval for compensation, the real victims have not been paid.
According to him, “the amount due to the victims in Sokoto state is N153 million and up to date the money has not been paid even though we are aware that it has been approved for disbursements”.
Chuwku decried the plight of the affected people in the state, adding that most of the victims already have dashed hopes of recovering from the 2011 post-election violence.
