Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Sadio Mane will be out for at least one month with a calf injury.
Mane, 22, picked up the injury shortly after scoring the Saints’ opener during the 2-0 win against Arsenal from a ridiculous angle and was withdrawn four minutes to the break.
“Sadio has a calf injury, he will be out for four to six weeks and he doesn’t play in the African Cup of Nations,” Koeman said after the Saints’ 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town in the third round of the FA Cup at St Mary’s on Sunday.
The summer signing from Red Bull Salzburg has been named in Senegal’s squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations beginning in Equatorial Guinea on January 17 through February 8.
“There is some contact with the federation now and maybe they will call the player to have a test.”
He scored 6 goals in 16 Senegal caps, including two goals in the final Afcon 2015 qualification tournament against Egypt and Bostwana (both in September).
