African U-17 Championship: Eaglets Wary Of South Africa

Nigeria will face South Africa in the semi-final of the African Under-17 Championship in Niamey, Niger Republic on Wednesday.

The Amajimbos stunned Cameroon 3-1 in their final Group B match on Sunday, to set up two-time junior champions Nigeria.

South Africa also completed the lineup of Africa’s representatives at Fifa U17 World Cup in Chile later this year, joining the reigning world champions, Group B winners Mali and Group A runners-up Guinea.

Coach of the Nigeria Golden Eaglets, Emmanuel Amuneke, said on Sunday that his charges will give all it takes to outwit the debutantes in a bid to reach the final of the cadet tournament.

“We are not going to underrate South Africa,” he said. “My boys made that mistake against Guinea and it nearly cost us dear. We will go all out against South Africa with our full strength.”

The 2015 Fifa Under-17 World Cup is scheduled for Chile beginning on 17 September till 8 November.

Kickoff time on Wednesday is 5pm (local time).
