Dani Alves’ agent has claimed his client could leave Barcelona this summer as the Brazilian defender awaits a new contract from the Spanish La Liga side.
The left-back is under contract at the Camp Nou until the end of the season but with a new offer taking long to materialise, the 31-year-old’s representative, Dinorah Santana, says they may just have to look elsewhere.
“They (Barca) have not been in touch with us,” Santana told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. “Hence, we interpret that Barca does not want Alves to continue so we will find another club.”
Barcelona cannot sign any player in 2015 having lost an appeal against a 14-month transfer ban for breaking rules on signing teenage minors.
“It’s strange that they would let him leave on a free transfer,” Santana added. “But if they have not said anything up to now, I believe they do not want to renew Alves’ contract.”
Alves, who has featured in 16 league games this season, joined Barca from Sevilla in summer 2008, and has won two Champions Leagues titles and four Spanish Primera championships.
Second-placed Barcelona are one point adrift of leaders Real Madrid, who have a game in hand against Sevilla.
