Wife of Kebbi State governor, Hajia Zainab Dakingari, has called on women of the state to beware of politicians who could trade with their mandate if voted into office.
The governor’s wife, who was campaigning in support of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kebbi Central senatorial candidate, Alh Abubakar Gari Malam, yesterday in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, reminded women in the zone that the APC candidate, Senator Adamu Aliero, has a penchant for trading with the mandate of the electorate.
“When Aliero was voted into the Senate in 2007, he vacated the National Assembly for a position of FCT Minister. There is no certainty that Aliero would respect the people’s mandate if given and could once again trade with it that is why he should not be voted for”, she said.
Aliero, a two-term governor of the state, had won election to the Senate in 2007 but forfeited the seat when he accepted an appointment as minister by the then Yar’Adua administration.
Chairman, publicity committee of the Kebbi State APC campaign organization, Alh Abdullahi Lamba, who responded on behalf of Aliero, said Dakingari’s leadership is an offshoot of the Aliero administration hence Dakingari cannot condemn it.
He said the comment by the governor’s wife is unfortunate and amounts to “biting the same finger that fed them”.
“They are now condemning Aliero, then who will trust them? Because they have committed an act of betrayal on somebody who used his influence to make them what they are today.
“The same people have bitten the finger that fed them. It was on the platform of Aliero’s administration that they were able to scale through.
“If she cannot respect Aliero or honour Aliero for bringing up her husband which made her to become the first lady, then there is no way she can condemn Aliero because Aliero brought tremendous wealth to herself and her husband”, Lamba said.
