Gov. Elechi’s Fate Hangs In The Balance As PDP Contemplates Expulsion Or Suspension

Martin ElechiThe Ebonyi State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, weekend declared that the party at the national level would soon take action against Governor Martin Elechi over his alleged anti-party activities in the state.

In a statement by the Party’s Publicity Secretary, Apostle Benjamin Obaji, the party explained that the decision to either suspend or expel the governor from the PDP was solely that of the national secretariat of the party as reports concerning his undue association with Labour Party had been submitted to the Abuja office of the party for necessary action.

Obaji accused Elechi of sponsoring LP’s programmes and candidates in the upcoming general elections, noting that it was improper for a sitting PDP governor to use the resources of the state to fund an opposition party against the platform that brought him to office in 2007.

According to the publicity secretary, no amount of conspiracy and evil machinations against the PDP would deter the party from emerging victorious at the polls even as he emphasized that the PDP governorship candidate, Engr. Dave Umahi, would succeed Mr. Elechi as governor come May 29, 2015.

The statement read in part: “The national secretariat of the PDP will soon take action on the Governor, whether he will be suspended or expelled from the party or not; our report has been submitted and it is clear of how he has been romancing with Labour party in the state.

“When the party flagged off its campaign, he was not in attendance throughout the exercise; there is allegation of how he has allowed all the activities of Labour Party to be broadcast on the state radio without allowing that of PDP.

“This man is not grateful to a party that brought him into prominence in 2007; he was never a PDP member yet he enjoyed the platform of the party as a two term Governor. This man is ungrateful”.
