Liverpool midfielder, Lazar Markovic has been handed a four-match suspension following his red card in the side’s final Uefa Champions League group game against Basel last December 9.
The 20-year-old Serbian was sent off for raising his arm in the direction of the pursuing Behrang Safari during the match.
The normal punishment for violent conduct is a three-match ban, but Markovic has received an extra game on top because he was sent off playing for Benfica in a Europa League match last May.

Liverpool failed to advance in the Champions League and are now consigned to the second-tier Uefa Europa League.
Markovic will now miss both legs of Liverpool’s round of 32 Europa League clash with Besiktas. The Anfield outfit hosts the Turkish side on Thursday.

He will also miss both leg of a prospective last-16 tie should the ‘Reds’ advance beyond the last 32 round.
